Joanna Strober: The CEO Balancing Virtual Care and Daily Hikes

After a fractured shoulder at age 44 revealed early signs of osteopenia, Midi Health cofounder Joanna Strober shifted her lifestyle toward aggressive prevention. Now 58, the Los Altos Hills executive manages her company through a rigorous routine of daily walking, targeted supplementation, and a strictly enforced evening wind-down.

Joanna Strober: The CEO Balancing Virtual Care and Daily Hikes

Strober’s day starts at 6:30 a.m. with a specific breakfast ritual: two Nespresso pods and a dense multigrain loaf from Manresa Bread. Her professional life, defined by back-to-back Zoom calls and product meetings, is interspersed with multiple walks. She logs over 10,000 steps daily, often conducting business calls while navigating the hills near her home. While she avoids fitness trackers, she maintains a consistent physical regimen that includes weighted vests on flat terrain and the occasional weekend climb up The Dish, a three-and-a-half-mile trail in Palo Alto.

Her approach to health is grounded in long-term prevention rather than rigid dieting. To combat bone deterioration, she utilizes hormone replacement therapy and supplements including Omega-3, vitamin D, K, creatine, and fiber. Though she avoids alcohol, she admits to a daily Diet Coke and a nightly ritual of chocolate ice cream topped with low-sugar jam. This balance extends to her social life, which includes regular Friday dinners prepared by her 81-year-old mother. By prioritizing sleep and consistent movement, Strober aims to maintain her physical independence, hoping to avoid the health struggles she has witnessed in her own family.
