Gerald Podobnik, co-head of the corporate bank, confirmed the timeline during the IMF and World Bank meetings in Bangkok. The rollout serves as a key pillar in the bank’s strategy to achieve 8% compound annual growth in corporate banking by 2028. Podobnik noted that the rapid emergence of new value pools, specifically the hundreds of billions of dollars circulating in stablecoins, necessitates a shift in service offerings.
The phased implementation will prioritize the custody of major assets like bitcoin and ether before transitioning into stablecoin liquidity services. Beyond simple storage, the bank intends to introduce tokenized deposits and support for blockchain-based securities, including digital bonds. Podobnik emphasized that these blockchain solutions function as complementary services to traditional banking rather than replacements for existing financial infrastructure.
